This week in the afternoons,  we have started to learn about William Morris, a famous artist from the Victorian era. We had our first ever try at printing, using potatoes and did some observational drawings of natural objects. By the end of this unit we aim to produce our own repeated printing pattern using polystyrene tiles.

As part of our topic we have been learning about Mary Seacole.  Mary Seacole hails from Jamaica.  This term we shall be looking at topography of Jamaica and its people with a view to comparing those features to where we live in Ashton.  As such, we enjoyed a Jamaica day today.  Children looked at maps and created flags.  We also ate food and drink associated with Jamaica.  Finally we looked at famous people from Jamaica such as Usain Bolt and Bob Marley.  We finished our day by running races and singing and dancing.

Year 2 take a trip to the Three Sisters

Year 2 visited the Three sisters as part of our science topic – Habitats.  We explored a pond habitat and a woodland habitat.  Finally, we looked at a micro habitat (under rotting wood). The children looked at the animals and the trees and plants associated with the habitat.  We even identified some mini beasts in the micro habitat.

We also met with a friends of Three Sisters volunteer who showed the children some birds of pray we might see in the woodland habitat.  What a beautiful day it was !

Miss Waters’ class really enjoyed building 3D shapes today. It helped us to identify how many vertices and edges they have.

We listened to part of the story where the author describes what Willow looked like.  We then used our imaginations to draw what we thought the farm looked like. Here are some of our lovely interpretations.

We are reading “The  children of willow farm ” today as part of world book day.  A lovely trip down memory lane for our teacher Miss Norris who loved Enid Blytons story books when she was a little girl.
